CC Discussion Board Rules

Click here to return to the Discussion Boards

Please read the rules below carefully before you use the boards.

1. Forum Friendly
There are different forums for different subjects. Before posting your message or starting a new topic make sure you are in the correct forum. Your thoughts on Bridget Jones' Diary belongs in the Out and About forum and not in The Big Issues.

2. SUSTAINED CAPITALS
On the web, writing in sustained capitals is the equivalent to YELLING. There is something on your keyboard called caps lock - avoid pressing it.

3. Advertising or Email addresses
If you want to advertise, put an ad in the newspaper or on the site's What's On section. Any links or urls to other sites as well as the posting of personal email addresses or contact details is forbidden. If you want to exchange email addresses this can be done in the internal mail system. Members breaking these rules may have their memberships cancelled.

4. Terms and Conditions
The terms and conditions to which you have subscribed on joining Christian Connection apply here. Any member breaking the terms and conditions either on the site or in the discussion boards will be brought to book… swiftly. Please note particularly the following issues:

a. Offensive Messages
Any offensive language or messages will be removed by Christian Connection and your membership to the site may be cancelled. General nastiness also will not be tolerated. While we encourage people to air their views constant sniping, blatant unconstructiveness or incitement can be boring and hurtful. We reserve the right to delete such messages.

b. Personal References
It is not permitted to divulge personal or confidential information about other members of the site. This includes negative descriptions of encounters with specific people (even if they are unnamed) or anything which might offend, hurt or misrepresent the person concerned, or invade their privacy. Public complaints about other people’s behaviour (even if unnamed) are not acceptable. If you have grounds for reporting a member, you can do this via the Help system.

If you have legitimate concerns about the conduct of other members on the boards, you can tell us by filling in a help form or by reporting the relevant post (click the Report This Post button at the bottom right hand side of the post) - don't send out a general broadcast.

Likewise remember that members and non-members alike read the boards. Christian Connection strongly recommends that you do not divulge personal details about yourself.

c. Libel
There are laws against defamation, slander and libel. We are subject to them. So are you. If you see anything that may come under this category, please tell us.

d. Crusading and talking aloud to yourself
The boards must not be used to promote personal crusades or preoccupations. This space is not here for people to pursue specific agendas and win converts. Information-sharing and debate about a range of issues and campaigns are welcome, of course, but single-issue preaching and crusading are not. Likewise threads which are made up only or substantially of contributions from one person or group will be deleted.

e. Monopolising the Boards in General
People should not make more than two contributions at a time on the Boards. If they want to post again, they should wait at least half an hour. Having the same person plastering their views all over the Discussion Boards can be boring and offputting. Quality not quantity. Boards are not to be used as blogs.

f. Offloading problems
Some people have been known to use the boards to talk at length about their own personal problems and to ask for support of advice from other members to what can be an extended degree. While it can be right for us to “bear one another’s burdens” this should not be in the context of one way “offloading”. Posts which do this, will be removed. Neither the members nor the staff of Christian Connection are in a position to provide counselling in this context. In these type of situations, its better and fairer to ask for trained confidential help.

If you see the rules being breached – please report them.

5. Incomplete Profiles
Your profile must be complete before you can contribute to the boards. Those with skeleton profiles may have their contributions deleted and their membership cancelled.

6. Help Queries
The discussion boards are not to be used for posting webmastering queries or issues relating to the workings on the site or your membership. Please direct these to the help system.

General Pointers

Once it's up it's up
Before you post your message take a good look at what you have written and consider how it may be interpreted by others. Remember once it's up it's up, you can't go back.

Play the Game
If you post, you have to face the possibility that someone may disagree with your point of view and may tell you so. Christian Connection is not here to referee on spats, however if you have genuine concerns about the conduct of others see below.

What do I do if I find something offensive on the board?
Please click the Report This Post icon on the bottom right hand side of each post and fill in a report.
